Bonda woman

Bonda woman

An installation to honour Bonda women - an endless source of inspiration for Boito. The mould was sculpted in terracotta, before being encased in brass wire - a craft called tara dhaancha kala. The dried terracotta clay was chipped away to reveal a hollow frame. The piece is adorned with traditional jewellery central to Bonda cultural identity: khagla neckpieces and colourful lubu beads...centuries old, bartered and circulated within the community for generations.
